About Us

Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is a Government of India scheme for Indian Tribals (Scheduled Tribes) across India. It is one of the flagship interventions of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and was introduced in the year 1997-98 to ensure tribal students get access to quality education in the remote tribal areas. EMRS started in the year 1997-98 to impart quality education to ST children in remote areas in order to enable them to avail of opportunities in high and professional educational courses and get employment in various sectors. The schools focus not only on academic education but on the all-round development of the students. Eklavya schools will have special facilities for preserving local art and culture besides providing training in sports and skill development. In Himachal Pradesh, one Eklavya Model Residential School at Nichar in Kinnaur district was started in 2005. In view of the success and state government's efficient management of the existing EMRS, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has approved three more EMR Schools for the state, in 2019. The new schools came up at Pangi and Bharmour in Chamba district and Kukumseri in Lahaul-Spiti district and were made functional in October 2019. .

EMRS Bharmour, Chamba (HP) Situated at an altitude of 7000 feet in the Budhil valley, 64 kilometers to the south-east of Chamba, Bharmour is known for its scenic beauty and for its ancient temples. Bharmour, formally known as Brahmpura, was the ancient capital of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh. As the whole country around Bharmour is supposed to belong to lord Shiva, it is popularly spoken of as Shiva Bhumi, "Abode of Lord Shiva". It lies between the Pir-Panjal and Dhauladhar range, between Ravi and Chenab valley. The land is blessed with deep beauty of abundant alpine pastures and provides home for nomadic shepherds, known as Gaddi, thus also called Gadderan. The foothills are filled with orchards and terraced farmsteads. The epitome of spirituality lies in this land as it is endowed with ancient temples. The area goes through inhospitable terrain and severe climate changes. The people of Bharmour are extremely courteous and meet visitors like their own family members. Along with its ethnic traditions, culture and ancient history, Bharmour forms the perfection of divine splendour.
